Horse rescued after 5 days underground

A two-year-old Cob had to be dug out of a small unknown underground chamber. Chico had been trapped in for five days, and was finally rescued by 11 fire-fighters.

The West Yorkshire Fire Service was called out on Wednesday 18th July by his worried owner as they could hear his distressed whinnying, but they were frustratingly unable to locate him.

Luckily on the 19th July there was another call from his owners that they had managed to find him, it had emerged that he had somehow managed to fall into a bunker through a foot- thick concrete roof. Chico was then assessed by a vet and seemed fine, so it was decided to sedate him and then dig him out of the 2ft hole in the ground.

Amazingly Chico was absolutely fine after his ordeal, after being trapped for 5 days, and is now back in his field with the other horses on the farm.
