Spanish Riding School's 2012 UK tour to include first female rider

Following the immense success of last year’s four sell out shows at London’s Wembley Arena, The Spanish Riding School of Vienna is returning to the UK again this November, and this time the show will include its first ever female rider, Hannah Zeitlhofer.

Twenty-five-year-old Hannah is the first woman in history to become an Assistant Rider. She joined the Spanish Riding School as an Eleve in September 2008 and gained her promotion on 1st May, 2012. Having ridden since the age of seven, Hannah previously competed in dressage competitions up to level L and M (equivalent to around medium level in the UK). “It’s really exciting to be part of the show,” says Hannah, who applied for a place at the School after completing her studies in equine science. “Being the first female to take part, I know that people are particularly interested in watching me, so I have to be absolutely sure I perfect my performance.”

This year’s show will take place in Birmingham at the NIA on 16th, 17th and 18th November. Visitors will be treated to stunning displays from the white Lipizzaner stallions, who will demonstrate everything they are famous for. Marvel at the trust and harmony between horse and rider during the in-hand work, sit back and enjoy the foot-perfect quadrille and look on in amazement as the stallions carry out their famous airs above the ground.

The show will be hosted by TV presenter Nicky Chapman, and Olympic and Paralympic dressage riders Carl Hester and Lee Pearson will open the performance with a demonstration of modern-day dressage movements to music – many of which are derived from the training methods used by the Spanish Riding School of Vienna.
