Three-year-old Horse Stuck In Ditch Freed By Firefighters

Firefighters helped a three-year-old horse which had had become stuck in a ditch.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 9.31am on Monday July 16 to a field near Pinfold Lane, Prescot.

A vet also attended at the scene and firefighters set up a hauling system.

Firefighters also freed the horse's leg which had become trapped in some wire mesh.

The horse was freed and was suffering from exhaustion and superficial cuts.

Station Manager Joe Cunliffe, who attended the call-out, said: “Firefighters used tirfor, which is a mechanical winch, and strops, a special type of strap, to lift the horse from the ditch.

“The vet checked Ella the horse and said she was suffering from exhaustion. She was in a field draining ditch in a combination of water and mud and had got stuck.”

The horse was hauled out of the ditch by 11.43am.
