BE announce new British Pony Team Chairman

Yorkshire based Gary Parsonage, the prolific four star rider and former British senior team member, is taking the role of the Chair of Selectors of the Charles Owen British Pony squad with immediate effect.

A former pupil of Lucinda Green as well as long-standing British Junior Coach Gill Watson, Gary has represented Britain at World, Olympic and European level. Highlights include finishing in fifth place at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta along with numerous Badminton and Burghley results, and an unprecedented record of four ‘Eventing Grand Prix titles’ at Hickstead.

Much of Gary’s time is taken up with coaching event riders as well as competing a string of horses from his base near Beverly in East Yorkshire.

Britain’s Pony Team has a consistent track record, winning both team and individual gold at the FEI Pony Europeans in Italy earlier this year.

Commenting on his new role, Gary said: “I am extremely proud to be taking on this role as part of a very successful Pony squad. We have a fantastic programme in place and some wonderful up and coming talent, so I very much look forward to supporting the Pony riders for the rest of this season and being part of the team going ahead into 2014.”

BE Chief Executive Mike Etherington-Smith commented: “It is extremely exciting to have the calibre of someone as experienced and knowledgeable as Gary to help continue Britain’s Pony team achievements.”

The Charles Owen British Pony programme culminates with the autumn CCNP2* at Weston Park in Shropshire which incorporates the Festival of Youth (11th – 13th October 2013).
