New location for Hexham Horse Trials

Belsay Castle, Northumberland will be the new venue for the former Hexham Horse Trials. The event, to be known as Belsay Horse Trials, has retained the same weekend in the British Eventing Calendar, taking place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June 2013.

The joint organisers of Belsay Horse Trials will be Edward and Jane Pybus together with Peter and Laura de Wesselow, who live at Belsay. Edward and Jane bring all their experience of the Hexham event, which they ran with Bobby and Sarah Charlton at The Linnels for twenty-five years, together with the support of much of the original organising committee from Hexham.

International course designer Ronald Alexander has designed the BE90, BE100 and Novice sections for 2013, as well as the infrastructure for the Intermediate section, which will commence in 2014. Work is about to start on the course, which is being built by experienced BE accredited builder, Peter Wilson.

“The beautiful parkland surrounding the 14th century castle at Belsay is absolutely perfect for a horse trials and we are very grateful to the Trustees of the Belsay Charitable Trust for allowing us to use this historic venue,” said organiser Edward Pybus.

“There is already a lot of excitement amongst competitors about coming to Belsay next year and we hope to build a really exciting event here which will also attract a large number of spectators,” continued Pybus.
