Yorkshire Para rider receives sponsorship from Scarborough business

Heather Bennett, a Para Dressage rider based in Goole, has received a sponsorship boost to her already flourishing career from Scarborough company Oasis Event Door.  Andrew and Louise Bainbridge, who own and run Oasis Event Door, have given Heather £1,000 which will go towards international competition costs and has also bought Heather a much needed scooter for getting about on the big show circuit.

Last year Heather was just one of six para dressage riders selected onto the 2014-2016 UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Development Programme. The programme looks to provide coaching and support to athletes – through human and equine sports science, nutrition and sports psychology – as part of an established training pathway of performance excellence.

Mr & Mrs Bainbridge commented: “We admire Heather’s tenacity and determination in pursuing her dressage career in the face of such obstacles, and we’re delighted to be associated with her in some way. We really look forward to supporting her on the journey to the top!”

A former International show jumper, Heather suffered a life-changing fall from a horse whilst competing in 2003, which left her with a broken neck and the prospect of never riding again. A life without horses was not an option for Heather and two years later she was back in the saddle. Resuming her show jumping career was not viable due to her on-going pain related issues, reduced movement in her neck and lack of strength and balance, but Heather was soon talent spotted and encouraged to start riding in Para dressage. So began her rise to Championship level and selection as a future prospect with the potential of representing Team GB at European Championships and Olympic Games.
